The Historic Walnut Street Association and the City of Springfield partnered together this fall to add five new gateway signs to define the historic district. Visitors will be greated to the area by signage at the National Avenue, John Q. Hammons Parkway, and Kimbrough intersections. Part of the design process was developing a new logo (see image) for the District. The residents and merchants felt the graphic reinforced the historic qualities of the street. In addition to the gateways, Community Development Block Grant funding will provide for new trash receptacles, benches, and planters for the District in the spring of 2007.
