Founded in 1905 as the Fourth District Normal School, Missouri State University has been an anchor academic institution in the Springfield community for more than 100 years. On August 28, 2005, the University experienced its fifth name change becoming Missouri State University with an enrollment of over 20,000 students. With the continued growth of student enrollment at MSU and renovation projects on campus it has become necessary to seek additional space. With the Kenneth E. Meyer Alumni Center, located in downtown Springfield, as the home to the Missouri State University Alumni Association, the Missouri State University Foundation, the Office of Development and Alumni Relations, News Services, Publications, and Photographic Services, as well as numerous off-campus tenants, utilizing other available space downtown made for another opportunity for MSU to become involved in downtown Springfield??
