The Downtown scene is about to become a little more trendy with the opening of Bistro Market by Price Cutter this week. Employee owned Pyramid Foods is thrilled to announce the opening of the market, one that has been designed after visits to stylish center-city groceries from urban areas such as Boston and New York City. Bistro Market is at the corner of South Avenue and Walnut Street in the building formerly housed by Wheeler’s Furniture. The building has undergone extensive renovations to create a fresh and distinctive approach to the grocery shopping experience. The 10,000 square-foot store is relatively small in comparison to other Price Cutter stores. Pyramid Foods CEO, Erick Taylor, states that “Despite the restricted space, Bistro Market by Price Cuter will create a more intimate and convenient shopping experience to meet the needs of the downtown consumer.”
A ribbon-cutting with the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce will be held on Thursday, August 19, at 5 pm at the new store (at the southwest corner of South and Walnut). The store will officially open for business on Friday, August 20.
The store will buy and feature local, natural and organic products when available. Other highlights include a chef-inspired delicatessen with restaurant-style seating, the most extensive salad and hot food bar in a grocery store in Springfield, an olive bar, Starbucks Café as well as a gelato bar. While shopping in the store, customers will be pleased to find a full-service meat and seafood department, featuring Wagyu Beef and fresh fish, a wide array of frozen and dairy products, an extensive selection of wines, spirits, domestic and imported beer, gourmet cheese and even have the opportunity to pick up a bouquet of flowers by Lilly’s Floral, which was voted as “Best Florist” runner-up by 417 Magazine’s Best of 2010. The store will also include a full service bar where downtown visitors can enjoy draft beer, wine, and cocktails. In addition to grocery staples and the salad and hot food bar, Bistro Market by Price Cutter will offer catering services and delivery on pizza and Bistro-to-Go items.
The concept is new and exhilarating for downtown. “We are excited to be involved in the revitalization of the area and delighted to offer this unique grocery store to those who live, work, and visit downtown” Taylor mentions. Bistro Market’s philosophy includes being conscience of environmental efforts and healthy lifestyles. The store will be offering a 10% off discount to customers with a college ID through August 22.
