Local favorites Merle’s Downtown and Sweet Susie’s will be moving locations this month after eight years on Walnut Street. Downtowners will have to go without their delicious hotdogs and yummy gooey butter cake during the move, to last about a week.
Starting on Monday, Oct. 11 those who know where to go for great, fast food and/or anyone looking for a new spot should come to 431 S Jefferson, across the street from The Grad School and Hoover Music Company.
The new location will boost a new menu and offer room for more customers, taking the available seating from less than 30 to over 100. Diners will also find a game room with arcade and pinball machines, along with a pool table to relax and unwind. The game room will also be available to rent for private parties. Local delivery in the surrounding downtown area will also be a new option for patrons.
One thing that won’t be changing? The love of all things Cardinals.
Merle’s Downtown has been downtown favorite delighting the crowd since 2002. Created by Merle Lent, Merle’s Downtown was founded on the idea of a simple hot dog stand with a three-item menu and chips as a side. Gerald Wolfe bought the company later that next year and has since expanded the menu to include more than just hot dogs and hamburgers. Sweet Susie’s was also founded during 2002 as an option for patrons to satisfy their sweet tooths. Since then Susie Wolfe has expanded the company to include catering for either big or small parties. Sweet Susie’s is still known for her gooey butter cake and recently the car bomb cupcake. You can follow Merle’s Downtown and Sweet Susie’s through Facebook.
