May 5, 2011: Last week, the folks at Askinosie Chocolate won several awards for various products from two very prestigious organizations in the specialty food industry.
The Academy of Chocolate in London awarded Askinosie Chocolate four medals: two gold and two silver medals. The 70% Del Tambo, Ecuador dark chocolate bar won a gold medal for Best Bean-To-Bar Dark Chocolate and the packaging won a gold medal for Best Packaging. The 72% Tenende, Tanzania dark chocolate bar won a silver medal for Best Bean-To-Bar Dark Chocolate and the Dark Milk chocolate bar won a silver medal for Best Bean-To-Bar Milk Chocolate. The award ceremony for the Academy of Chocolate winners will take place in London in the Fall and Shawn Askinosie, founder and owner of Askinosie Chocolate, hopes to attend.
Askinosie Chocolate also won two Silver sofiTM Awards from the National Association of Specialty Food Trade: one for their Chocolate Hazelnut Spread and one for their White Chocolate Bar. This is the third year in a row that Askinosie Chocolate has won a sofiTM Award, but the first year that they have won in two separate categories. The award ceremony for the sofiTM winners takes place at the Summer Fancy Food Show, which Askinosie will attend to exhibit his chocolate, accept the trophies, and express his gratitude.
Askinosie is humbled by these awards and considers it an honor to be selected amongst such stiff competition. “Even though this is not our first year to win a sofiTM Award, we are still ecstatic because the judges are our peers in the food industry and it means a lot that they love our products. As for the medals from the London Academy of Chocolate, “I am stunned. Some of my “chocolate heroes” have won gold medals and I never expected to be placed into the same category as them.”
Askinosie Chocolate is a small batch chocolate manufacturer located in Springfield, Missouri, sourcing 100% of their beans directly from the farmers. Shawn Askinosie, founder and chocolate maker, travels to regions of Ecuador, Honduras, the Philippines and Tanzania to work directly with the farmers and source cocoa beans for his chocolate.
