After a year’s absence for a major facelift, Park Central Square will once again be the home of the “Sounds on the Square” free summer concert series. It will feature some of the region’s top bands and compliment downtown’s 46 restaurants, 16 movie screens, and 5 live theatre venues.
Systematic Savings is the new title sponsor for the concert series. “We have a rich history in downtown Springfield and are experiencing a rebirth with our recent renovations, just like Park Central Square. We felt this was a perfect opportunity to encourage the community to check out the great music and businesses here in downtown,” said Michael Brady, President of Systematic Savings.
Performances are scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. each Friday evening from the First Friday in June to the First Friday in August (10 weeks). Patrons may bring lawn chairs or enjoy dinner on the Square in one of three adjacent outdoor cafes.
Featured musical groups include:
June 1 Me Like Bees and Abandon Kansas
June 8 Colin Elmore and the Franz Family
June 15 Thirst N Howl
June 22 Offset Sunset
June 29 Mercer & Johnson
July 6 We Are Voices
July 13 Sequel Dose
July 20 Truett and the Traitors
July 27 Steve Smith and the Sneakers
August 3 Endless Summer
The concert series is managed by the Urban Districts Alliance with support from The Gig Bureau and the Downtown Springfield Community Improvement District.
Quote from Mark Steiner, Gig Bureau – “We have worked very closely with the UDA and the DSCID to bring in an exciting variety of music – there should be something for everyone.”
