Askinosie Chocolate recently won a fifth Silver sofi™ Award for its Dark Milk Chocolate + Black Licorice CollaBARation™ Bar.
This is the fourth year in a row that Askinosie Chocolate has won a Silver sofi™ Award from the National Association of Specialty Food Trade. The ceremony for the sofi™ winners will take place at the Summer Fancy Food Show in June in Washington D.C., where the Gold winners will be announced. The chocolate bar was chosen as a silver winner amongst stiff competition of nearly 2,000 specialty food entries.
The Dark Milk Chocolate + Black Licorice Bar launched Askinosie’s CollaBARation™ line in October 2011. The bar was created in partnership with friends at Lakritsfabriken, artisan makers of organic, gluten-free black licorice in Stockholm, Sweden. This handcrafted, 62 percent dark milk chocolate bar is blended with goat’s milk powder, organic cane sugar and Fleur de Sel sea salt and topped with Lakritsfabriken salted licorice and anise seed.
Askinosie Chocolate is a small batch chocolate manufacturer located in Springfield, Mo., sourcing 100% of their beans directly from the farmers. Shawn Askinosie, founder and chocolate maker, travels to regions of Ecuador, Honduras, the Philippines and Tanzania to work directly with the farmers and source cocoa beans for his chocolate. This allows the chocolate to be traced to the source and labeled Authentic Single Origin Chocolate. It also enables Askinosie Chocolate to profit share with the farmers, giving them a Stake In the Outcome™. The Askinosie Chocolate mission is to serve their farmers, their neighborhood, their customers and each other; sharing the Askinosie Chocolate Experience by leaving the world a better place than they found it.
