The Springfield Regional Arts Council (SRAC) is calling for artists to participate in the 6th annual “Hearts for the Arts: I See Red” exhibition, a fundraising silent auction of red or heart-themed works that benefits the SRAC’s arts education efforts. For the first time in the event’s history, pieces do not have to include a heart but can simply incorporate the color red to fit the theme. “Hearts for the Arts: I See Red” will be open from Friday, January 17, 2014 to Friday, February 7, 2014 at The Creamery Arts Center and online at www.SpringfieldArts.org. The Creamery will be open Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm and Saturdays from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
Local artists are invited to submit up to two visual or written pieces for the event using any medium of their choice. All pieces must incorporate the color red or a heart to accompany the theme and be 11”x14” in size. Two-dimensional pieces must be wired and ready to hang. Three-dimensional pieces may be accepted with prior arrangements. All pieces must be dropped off at The Creamery on Friday, January 10, 2014 or Monday, January 13, 2014 between 9:00am and 5:00pm.
Silent auction bidding will launch at The Creamery and online at www.SpringfieldArts.org on Friday, January 17, 2014 at 5:00pm. Bidding will end on First Friday Art Walk, February 7, 2014 during a free public reception from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Online bidding will end at 8:00pm and in-person gallery bidding will end at 9:00pm.
“Hearts for the Arts: I See Red” is the only time the SRAC asks artists to donate work. In exchange for the donations, artist names and works will be showcased online and at The Creamery. All “Hearts for the Arts: I See Red” proceeds will benefit the SRAC’s arts education programs that support local teaching artists and arts organizations reaching more than 20,000 children annually in a 27-county region.
National Art Shop, located at 509 South National Avenue, is generously offering a 35% discount on 11”x14” canvases to artists participating in “Hearts for the Arts: I See Red.”
