The Springfield Regional Opera, a Lyric Theatre Company, and the Springfield Contemporary Theatre announce a joint production of The Threepenny Opera, directed by Dr. Robert Bradley. The sly melodies of composer Kurt Weill and the daring of dramatist Bertolt Brecht come together to form this operatic masterpiece. Set in the impoverished back alleys of Victorian London, The Threepenny Opera follows underworld anti-hero Mackie Messer (a.k.a. Mack the Knife), played by William Gowers, as he tries to woo Polly Peachum and elude the authorities. This precursor to modern musicals will play over multiple weekends in April and May at SCT’s Center Stage (431 S. Jefferson Ave #136, on the corner of Pershing & Robberson). Thursday, Friday, and Saturday shows begin at 7:30 on April 25-26, May 2-3, and May 8-10. Sunday matinees begin at 2:00 on April 27 and May 4. Tickets are available for $15, $20, or $25. Please call the SRO at 417-873-1960 for reservations.
