TOUR DE OZARKS, A BICYCLES & BREWS FESTIVAL
The sun is out and our local trails, greenways and roadways are beginning to bustle with cyclists as people are traveling more on bicycles for daily commutes.
With the spirit of our growing cycling community in mind, English Management and Midwest Family Radio are excited to host the second annual Tour de Ozarks, A Bicycles and Brews Festival to be held on Park Central Square on Saturday, May 10th, 2014. The celebration will kick-off Ozark Greenways “Bike to Work Week” coming up on May 12-16th.
The downtown festival will begin with bike rides hosted in partnership with Ozark Greenways and the The LINK initiative and local bike clubs Midwest Off-Road Cyclists (MORC) and Trail Spring. Cruise downtown and join the fun with a ride through Springfield’s Greenway Trails before winding your way back to Park Central Square.
“We need to develop our community in a way that makes it comfortable and easy to use alternative transportation, like biking or taking the bus, and now it’s happening,” said Ozarks Greenways Program Coordinator Lori Tack.
“We’ve been so focused in the past on accommodating cars, that we’ve done ourselves a huge misfortune by not giving bicycling infrastructure the focus it needs. The momentum is building, however. A bike-friendly infrastructure will pay for itself many times over, for generations to come. Bike to Work Week is a great chance to try out the new on-street bike route network, and to get creative about how to leave the car behind once in a while to get around.”
Saturday’s festivities will include a variety of live music, kids activities, bicycle demonstrations, and more. The Moxie Cinema will host a special showing of “The Triplets of Belleville” at 1:00 pm and City Utilities will have the Let’s Go Smart bus on display at Park Central Square.
A portion of the day’s proceeds will benefit Ozark Greenways. So bring your friends, family, bikes, and picnic blankets downtown for this unique event!
