The public is invited to attend an open house on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007, from 5 to 7 p.m., to provide input and feedback for the project to renovate Park Central Square. The open house will be held at Hagerman New Urbanism, 122 Park Central Square.
Local architecture firm Butler, Rosenbury & Partners will display a series of preliminary recommendations based on feedback obtained at a public workshop held on Sept. 13 and surveys conducted at Cider Days, Taste of Springfield and online. To date, over 750 people have participated in this process.
Butler Rosenbury and its collaborative partner, Project for Public Spaces (PPS), are scheduled to present final recommendations to the Springfield City Council for public input and approval in January 2008. Construction of phase one is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2008.
Working with Butler Rosenbury and PPS is a Technical Committee comprised of stakeholders from the City of Springfield Council and staff, City Utilities, Heer’s, Urban Districts Alliance, the Community Improvement District and the Downtown Springfield Association.
The City has approximately $1 million in grant funding for improvements to Park Central Square as part of the ongoing downtown revitalization process. To date, public and private investment in Center City either completed or planned totals $251,524,053. City and Federal funds represent 15.5 percent of the total amount. Private investment is 46.2 percent and Missouri State University investment is 38.3 percent.
