Thursday, November 29 2007 (08:42AM) | Posted by Kathryn Vicat-Dlabach (DSA) | Downtown
The College Station Car Park will open to the public on Tuesday, Nov. 27, in time for the holiday shopping season and for the December First Friday ArtWalk.
The three-level, 393-space parking garage is located in the heart of downtown Springfield at the intersection of Campbell Avenue and McDaniel Street. Parking will initially be available for free to all downtown patrons and employees of center city businesses. Residential overnight parking is not permitted at this time.
Sidewalks have been completed between the south stair tower and Campbell Avenue to the east. Temporary crosswalks have been installed across McDaniel Street to the south. The completed garage is the first of two phases in the College Station project, and will set the stage for a movie theatre to be built to the north. The $8.6 million garage project is funded through a voter-approved 1/8-cent sales tax for transportation. The general contractor is DeWitt and Associates.
