Student Union Board and Drury SIFE team up to bring Last Thursday’s Drury Nights on Commercial Street

Springfield, MO November 27, 2007: The Commercial Street District is planning a special welcome to the Drury community by extending regular business hours and offering discounts exclusive to Drury students, faculty, and staff this Thursday night.

The event, which will occur on the last Thursday of each month that school is in session, promises to showcase the best of Commercial Street, including shops that feature locally-made crafts, lounges, fashion boutiques, coffee shops, and more, all with a Drury-only discount. Local musicians will also be performing at Big Momma’s coffeehouse and Lindberg’s, including Chris Sutton, Chance Ray, and others. Free transportation is being provided by Student Union Board, and a trolley will be continuously running from the fountains at the end of Drury Lane to Commercial Street from 7-11pm on Thursday night.

The idea for Drury Night on Commercial Street stemmed from a SIFE project which focuses on supporting the revitalization efforts of the C-Street District. “It was determined that a way Drury SIFE could help would be to generate foot traffic in the district which would support investment and business owners.” Said Drew Kifer, Drury SIFE.

“I’m very excited to offer something special for the Drury Community,” said Nicole Corwin, Commercial Street Community Development Coordinator. “The Drury collaboration is a way to create a traffic-building activity that supports our revitalization strategy, and Drury’s geographic location to Commercial Street makes for a natural partnership.
