Missouri State University Art & Design Gallery, located at 333 E. Walnut, will present “Jim Bremer & Ruth Buffington: A Wood & Fiber Collaboration” February 1 – 28, 2008. The exhibition will open February 1 from 6:00 to 10:00 pm during downtown Springfield’s First Friday Art Walk.
Since 2005 Jim Bremer and Ruth Buffington have shared a marriage both in their personal lives and in their creative endeavors. Their collaboration has produced a body of work that is dramatically different from anything either did individually. The merger of diverse talents has resulted in a fusion of fine and exotic woods, hand-dyed and rare Japanese fabrics, shimmering color and free form stitching, that exhibits an appreciation for the forms and design found in nature.
Ruth Buffington is a fashion and jewelry designer and creator of art quilts. She grew up in the seaside of Gold Beach Oregon. She attended Linfield College and studied in Guadalajara, Mexico, and has traveled extensively through Africa, India and Central America.
Jim Bremer is a professional graphic designer and native of Monett, Missouri. He graduated from Missouri State University with a BFA in Graphic Design. He is a member of the Missouri State University Founders Club and was Missouri State University Alumni of the Year in 2005.
The couple resides in East Long Meadow, Massachusetts.
