Moxie Cinema Moving

The Moxie Cinema is moving, say owners Dan and Nicole Chilton.

By September, the locally-owned theater that screens art and independent movies will be housed in the Wilhoit Plaza at Jefferson Avenue and Pershing Street, a few blocks away from its current home at 408 W. Walnut St. The owners signed the lease Feb. 28, Dan Chilton said.

The larger space, at 4,356-square-feet, has room for two screens and more than 140 seats, versus one 75-seat single screen at the current location. One of the new screening rooms will be smaller to accommodate niche films that attract fewer people. It will also allow for retaining popular movies beyond the original calendar runs.

The new Moxie location will gain a lobby with tables, chairs and sofas, and an improved snack bar menu to include beer on tap and fountain sodas with ice. Another improvement: separate men’s and women’s bathrooms with at least three stalls each. The current facilities have two unisex bathrooms with one stall each. Visit the Moxie Website for more information and showtimes.
