"Please Pardon Our Progress" -- Construction Update
Tuesday, May 13 2008 (08:31PM) | Posted by Rusty Worley | Downtown

Now that spring is finally here, construction is in full swing Downtown. Here’s an update on several projects from the City of Springfield --
Heer’s Car Park – The City plans to open the 350-space Heer’s Car Park for public use on Thursday, May 15. Please note the only entrance and exit from the garage will be on Olive Street during the continuing construction on Campbell between Park Central West and Olive Street. Parking will be free until Hollywood Theaters opens this fall. The City will be finalizing the policies and fee schedules for daily and monthly parking later this summer.
Campbell Construction (Walnut to College) – The City is working with its contractors to keep at least one lane of local traffic open between Walnut and College to allow the continued access to businesses and the College Station Car Park. Thru-traffic (vehicles heading north of Olive on Campbell) will be directed to take a detour by turning west on Walnut to Grant. Construction of the new streetscape (sidewalks and historical lighting) from McDaniel to College is scheduled through June 20. The City and the Community Improvement District will be working together to hang banners at the Walnut and Campbell intersection – “All Businesses Are Open”
Northeast Parking Lot at Campbell and Olive – This surface lot is now complete with new lighting and landscaping. It will be utilized by the State of Missouri employees during the work day and is available for free public parking on nights and weekends until the theater opens this fall.
Northwest Parking Lot at Campbell and Olive – This surface lot is now under construction and will receive similar enhancements as its counterpart across Campbell. It should be completed by mid to late summer.
Boonville and Olive Parking Lots – State employees are asked to discontinue parking in the customer parking lots at Boonville and Olive (both east and west) once the new Heer’s Car Park opens on Thursday, May 15. Vehicles exceeding the three-hour limit in the customer parking lots at Boonville and Olive are subject to ticketing at that point.
Everyone's patience is appreciated during these important projects. Please don’t hesitate to contact the UDA office at (417) 831-6200 if you have any questions about parking or streetscape construction.
