Downtown Live Theatre Tickets 50% Off

Thursday, October 1 2009 (01:10PM) | Posted by Donnie Rodgers | Downtown

On the heels of an incredibly successful “Dinner and a Movie” program this summer, the Downtown Springfield Association announces a new partnership with the Springfield Theatre Alliance called “D Tix”. The program will offer limited day-of performance tickets to plays and musicals at half the box office price. With six theatre companies participating, there is a wide variety of entertainment choices.

The Coffee Ethic on Park Central Square will sell day-of performance tickets beginning at noon through 30 minutes before curtain. Savings will typically range from $4 to $12.50, depending on the venue and type of show. Ticket inventory at this discounted rate will be limited and at the discretion of individual productions. Sales will be “first come, first served” so patrons are encouraged to check the board early for ticket availability. The Coffee Ethic accepts credit cards, cash, and Downtown Dollars gift certificates. There is a $1 handling fee charged per ticket. The program will run from October 1 through December 31.

Downtown Springfield is the region’s home of live theatre as evidenced by the recent 100th anniversary of the Landers Theatre and the 75th anniversary of the Springfield Little Theatre. It was live theatre that continued to draw thousands of patrons to downtown when urban revitalization first began ten years ago.

The Springfield Theatre Alliance exists to promote live theatre, building upon both the tradition and uniqueness of Springfield's downtown theatres and university programs. Formed in 2008, its participating members include:

Missouri State University Theatre & Dance (Craig Hall, Missouri State University campus)

Skinny Improv & Springfield Playhouse (301 Park Central East)

Springfield Contemporary Theatre at Vandivort Center Theatre (305 E. Walnut)

Springfield Little Theatre at the Landers Theatre (311 E. Walnut)

Springfield Symphony Orchestra (Juanita K. Hammons Hall, 525 S. John Q. Hammons Parkway)

Swan Repertory Theatre at the Gillioz Theatre (317 Park Central East) and Vandivort Center Theatre

• LuMaxx Productions at Big Momma’s Back Porch Theatre (217 E. Commercial St.)
