Springfield Christmas Parade Winners Announced

Congratulations to the following Allegiant Air airline ticket winners at the pre-parade party on Park Central Square.

The 2006 Downtown Springfield Christmas Parade, held Dec. 9, announces the following winners:
Nonprofit/Organization and Church Entries
Grand Champion: Green Haven Skilled Care.
Old Fashioned Christmas Carnival. Float pulled by 16-passenger bus. Back and side of float set up as a midway “turkey shoot” game. When someone won the game, a frozen turkey was passed out to someone in the crowd. Float also included clowns, carnival barkers and music.
Judged Entries
Grand Champion: Creekside at Elfindale.
Duck Pond Christmas. Golf cart housing a pool with duck pond game and decorations. Up to 12 walkers dressed as ducks with Christmas flair passed out candy.
Most Accurately Reflects The Theme: MGym Dance.
Madame Scrooge’s Christmas Carnival. Floating carnival featured a juggler, ferris wheel, carousel and game booths with sock puppets as the carnival workers. In the middle was an airplane with signs behind it along with some skyscrapers. Behind the float, kids danced to carnival hip hop music.
Best Costumes: McAlister’s Deli.
McAlister’s float featured an 8-ft inflatable “sweet tea” glass. Children dressed as elves, decorating with cookies and candies (some real, some artificial and oversized) joined them.
Most Original: Klinger-Cope Family Funeral Home.
This entry was a 1909 horse-drawn hearse that was actually used in 1909 by the Klinger family.
