Downtown is great for family outings—shopping and more. Jordan Valley Park offers a place to bring the kids with its fountains and walking trails. Founders Park has a recreation of the original spring used by the founders, upland woods and native prairie grass areas as well as an historical timeline. In summer, Movies at Founders Park shows recently run films. And the Downtown YMCA has it all, including an indoor three-story climbing wall, and the Discovery Center opens a window on science and culture for kids of all ages.

College students find many places to meet and have fun in the multitude of cafes and coffee houses. Our revitalized Park Central Square is a lovely place to sit amid waterfalls, trees and grass. And bands of all types often perform on its stage. On the Square, the Park Central Branch Library, in a renovated former Kresge store, is themed on the arts and multimedia.

There are 6,000 parking spaces downtown, making it convenient to attend, shop and enjoy all the events that cluster there.
