Festival of Lights Kick-Off Celebration

Six weeks of holiday events, activities and family fun kicks off Saturday, Nov. 22 at Jordan Valley Park.

Springfield’s Center City will host a flurry of activities for the 2013 Festival of Lights season. Festival of Lights kicks off Saturday, Nov. 22nd with an evening full of events!

Illumination Celebration at the Tower Club, 5:00 p.m. – Enjoy a festive buffet, music, and a stunning view of the Mayor’s Tree Lighting and Cardinals Fireworks from up above Jordan Valley Park. Open to the public. Call 866-4466 for reservations.

Mayor’s Tree Lighting Ceremony, 5:30 p.m. at Jordan Valley Park –  Join Mayor Bob Stephens for music, entertainment and the lighting of the 33-foot tree. Then parade over to Hammons Field for free hot chocolate and fireworks.

Free Ice Skating, 6:00 p.m. – Enjoy 2 hours of free skating at Mediacom Ice Park.

Free Carriage Rides, 6:30 p.m. – Enjoy 3 hours worth of free horse drawn carriage rides at Park Central Square.

Park Central Square Tree Lighting, 7:30 p.m.  – Cap off the night with live music from Tuba Christmas as we flip the switch in Park Central Square.

Other Festival of Lights activities throughout November and December include horse-drawn carriage rides, holiday shows and concerts, a loft walk, Christmas light displays in Jordan Valley Park, the Downtown Springfield Christmas Parade and First Night Springfield.  Festival of Lights is presented by Mercy, Midwest Family Broadcasting, the Downtown Springfield CID, the Springfield-Greene County Park Board, the Urban Districts Alliance, and

the City of Springfield.
