Young, local, string musicians compete for chance to perform with Springfield Symphony

Area string students have an opportunity to compete for the chance to play with the Springfield Symphony during the Springfield Symphony Young Artists String Competition this Saturday, February 4, at First and Calvary Presbyterian Church, starting at 9 a.m.

The competition gives young, string musicians the chance to perform as a soloist with the Springfield Symphony during the Young Peoples Concert on May 8, 2012.

The competition is open to musicians who reside in the greater Springfield area, performing on violin, viola, cello or bass. Musicians are divided into three age categories, 10 and younger, 11-14 and 15-18.

The judges will select winners based on auditions during the event. The judges are not required to, nor limited to select a winner from each of the three age divisions.
