Sounds on the Square: Electra 225 & Blue Plate Special

Enjoy some of Downtown's best live music this summer at Park Central Square in a free concert series presented by the Urban Districts Alliance. Bring your lawn chairs or enjoy dinner on the square in one of three outdoor cafes while enjoying great local music. Make it an extra special evening with a carriage ride on the square by Shires for Hire for just $5 per person. Going downtown for a night out is always a special event, it's all part of the Downtown Difference.
At 7 p.m. Electra 225 will kick off the evenings performances. Electra 225 brings together four versatile, longtime Springfield area musicians playing a variety of classic rock and original material. The band is composed of Ken Hopper on guitar and vocals, Bill Penninger on bass, Del Thompson on drums, and Steven Thomas on guitar, keyboards and vocals. Electra 225 plays a wide range of popular music, including songs from artists such as The Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Tom Petty and John Mellencamp . The band also features a number of original tunes from Ken Hopper's recently released CD, entitled Eclecticity. Following Electra 225 is our showcase act for the evening Blue Plate Special, featuring Vern Morgan (lead guitar/vocals), Cliff Jacobs, (guitar/vocals/harmonica), Lynn Barbour, (drums/vocals), Pete Stevens, (percussion/keyboard/vocals)< and Jimmy Seiber. (bass guitar). Blue Plate Special has been heavily influenced by various blues artists which allow then to create a sound of their own. Local favorites for many years Blue Plate Special is sure to provide great music and great entertainment for everyone downtown.
The concert series continues on Fridays and Saturdays for the first three weekends in June (13, 14, 20, and 21) from 7 until 10 p.m. FREE admission -- so plan to come out before or after dinner at one of the 40 Downtown restaurants.
