The “Downtown Tree” at the Downtown Church illuminates Walnut Street each evening with more than 25,000 lights.
Dustin Hodges, KY3:
When Lori Lampert became pastor at the Downtown Church, the old St. Paul United Methodist Church, she knew the church needed to do something extraordinary to reach out to the community.
“This church was ready for something new and had made the decision that whatever it takes we’ll do it,” says Lampert.
So the church decided to take its message beyond the walls of the sanctuary and into the neighborhood.
“Just to bring life to this corner an our biggest project to date became the tree; what we’re calling the downtown tree,” says Lampert, “All it’s there to do is say to Springfield there’s hope on this corner, there’s love in this community, come be a part of it.”
