The 2nd Annual “Sounds on the Square” free concert series was a HUGE success! After being inundated with requests for an ‘encore performance’ the UDA, Empire Bank and Hoover Music are answering the call with 5 more concert dates! Performances that had do be cancelled due to weather have been rescheduled and new performers have been added to the concert series.
Make plans to be on Park Central Square Friday, July 25 at 7:00 p.m. to hear Lance Sitton and the Seed. This is a truly talented group of musicians that showcases a love for jazz and tight rhythms. Featuring Rico Samuel drummer, Tommy Graham on sax; Tom Gibson on bass, Lance Sitton on guitar and doing vocals; and also on vocals is Meredith LaMarsh. The Seed has been performing together for several months and consider themselves a unique blend of many genres including folk, reggae, R&B, and jazz. It’s a laid back kind of sound that’s easy to listen to and get lost in. So sit back, relax, close your eyes and nod your head a little as you listen to the chilled out sounds of Lance Sitton and the Seed. At 8 pm stick around for Electra 225. This group brings together four versatile, longtime Springfield area musicians playing a variety of classic rock and original material. The band is composed of Ken Hopper on guitar and vocals, Bill Penninger on bass, Del Thompson on drums, and Steven Thomas on guitar, keyboards and vocals. Electra 225 plays a wide range of popular music, including songs from artists such as The Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Tom Petty and John Mellencamp . The band also features a number of original tunes from Ken Hopper's recently released CD, entitled Eclecticity. The final performance for the evening will be the The Expectations, a group with a very eclectic sound, playing original work as well as covers from Tom Petty, the Black Crowes, Shooter Jennings, Black Oak, and The Waterboy.
It’s family friendly, it’s free and it’s downtown! Bring your lawn chair, throw out a blanket or enjoy provided seating as you enjoy free live music in one of the best outdoor venues in Springfield, Park Central Square. Dine at one of the 40 downtown restaurants or make reservations at one of the 3 outdoor cafés located on the square to enjoy live music while you dine.
