Longtime Downtown SGF venue The Regency throughout the 1980s and ’90s hosted some iconic bands in its day. News-Leader reporter Andrew Jansen wrote about the venue’s return:
Paralandra was the first band to take the stage [New Year’s Eve]. Lead guitarist Paul Carson has been playing in bands in Springfield since the mid-1990s, including the band Loose Canon. “It was a fantastic club to play in. It was ‘the place’ back then.” he said. Carson said that the original Regency was a little grittier and that Thomas has done a great job updating the look. Last minute touches were taking place throughout the day on Dec. 31, and the sign outside the club was put up just hours before the doors opened.

Carson said it was a great feeling being on the stage at the Regency again. “It definitely took me back. It also reminded me about the great bands I saw there and knowing that it will probably happen again. I felt honored that Gary would ask us to kick that off.”
