ENJOY HANDS-ON CRAFTS, LIVE ART DEMONSTRATIONS & HOLIDAY TREATS FOR ALL AGES

First Friday Art Walk is proud to present Second Saturday noon-5 p.m. Dec. 9 in 15 participating locations.

This laid-back, Saturday afternoon stroll version of the Art Walk features the free art exhibits that debuted on Dec. 1, and a variety of holiday-themed free and paid events complementing the Downtown Springfield Christmas Parade, which starts at 2 p.m. For more details on the festivities surrounding the parade, please visit itsalldowntown.com or Check Out the Facebook Event

EARLY, LATE EVENTS BOOKEND SECOND SATURDAY, CHRISTMAS PARADE

Art Walk’s party starts at noon, but don’t miss out on all the activities related to the parade and Festival of Lights celebration, including Free Holiday Art Day at The Creamery Arts Center, starting at 11 a.m. The event features four child- and family-friendly creativity stations including cookie decorating, scarf making and gift-bag stamping!

Also kicking off early is Cookies, Caroling & Crafts at Art Inspired, which runs 10:30 a.m.-noon. Visitors will enjoy holiday treats, music and decorate two ornaments of their choice for a $12 fee.

Park Central Branch Library offers a free Make & Take craft event for adults, Make & Take: Clay Diffuser Pendants at 10:30 and a Holiday Storytime for all ages at 11:30 with Celebrity Reader Mrs. Claus.

A bonus event after 5 is OTC Fine Art Department’s It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play by Joe Landry at 7:30 p.m. at the Gillioz. Enjoy the OTC 2017 Student Showcase exhibit in the lobby. Tickets to the radio play are $10 (if you didn’t get a free ticket during Art Walk!)

Be sure to reserve your spot in advance! About David Middleton: David Middleton has more than 35 years’ experience in the fields of broadcast, video production and still photography. For 15 years his role was production and operations manager at various television stations, but his passion was always being “behind the scenes” with a camera in his hands. His direction and production credits include Good Morning America, Entertainment, award-winning music videos, plus live newscasts, sporting events, and many music concerts. He has operated cameras for ESPN, FOX Sports Network, NBC, CBS, SPEED Channel, The Outdoor Channel and has produced videos for NHK in Japan. Fresh Gallery, 400 W. Walnut, presents December Featured Artist Carole Ogden and her show Fragments of My Mind, plus experience Fresh’s amazing array of holiday cards, ornaments and hand-crafted art gifts. About the Artist: Best of Missouri Hands and Fresh Gallery artist Carole Ogden has also been a full-time Kickapoo High School French teacher for the past 10 years. The French-born artist has always used art as a means of expression, empowerment, and enjoyment. She enjoys painting colorful situations using oils and watercolors as her mediums and transforming her memories into paintings. The primary source of inspiration in her subject matter comes from her European roots and love of travel. She likes to use color to paint a magical feeling of the world that one may see in the day-to-day. MSU Student Exhibition Center, 838 E. Walnut St., presents the BFA Art and Design Exhibition. At the end of their senior year, each student in MSU’s design program must participate in the Final Project Exhibition. For the final project, each student works with an actual nonprofit group or business to develop and execute every stage of a design assignment, from concept to delivery.
