2020 marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. In honor of this milestone, we are using the 49th Annual Earth Day as a platform to build renewed awareness around the holiday and its mission. A “passing of the torch” ceremony, to younger environmental stewards in the community, will take place at 11 a.m., April 22, 2019 in Park Central Square. This will serve as the ceremonial kickoff to Earth Day cleanups and volunteer opportunities across the City.
Earth Day has reached its current status as the largest secular observance in the world, celebrated by more than a billion people every year, and a day of action that changes human behavior and provokes policy changes. We hope that through this event and connecting the community to volunteering opportunities, it will ignite a resurgence in awareness and passion in making every day Earth Day – not just April 22nd.
