There’s a quote from Modernist poet William Carlos Williams that goes like this: “It is difficult to get the news from poems, yet men die miserably every day for lack of what is found there.” If it’s difficult to get the news from poems, a written form, how much more so is that true for the urgent messages visual art aims to convey? Journalist and poet Karen Craigo will lead exercises in ekphrastic poetry (that is, poetry inspired by art), and these can be adapted for use with students at many levels.
