The Historic Gillioz celebrates our 92nd anniversary with a remarkable throwback evening to opening night in 1926.
The evening features a Master of Silent Film Festival with silent films of the era including the comedic talents of Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton and Laurel & Hardy. See the films as they were originally screened, in the historic setting that truly becomes part of the show. The musical scores will all be performed live by the Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra.
The Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra, based in Annapolis, MD, is “the premier American ragtime ensemble” as hailed by the Washington Post, and is rapidly becoming the leading professional ragtime orchestra in the United States. Formed by young virtuoso Andrew Greene at the University of Maryland in 2010, the PRSO recreates the syncopated stylings from a bygone era – ragtime, musical theater, dance selections, and silent film accompaniment – all performed off of the original turn-of-the-century orchestral scores. The ensemble is primarily composed of young musicians, age 35 and below, and has been widely praised for their work preserving and performing America’s musical past.
Peacherine has appeared at leading venues including The Kennedy Center, The Library of Congress, The American Film Institute, state-of-the-art performing arts centers, historic theaters, colleges, universities, and concert associations. Frequently PRSO’s work has been featured in documentaries, online video, and is heard on radio and podcast programs across the United States, including Hot Jazz Saturday Night (WAMU 88.5, Washington DC), Ragtime America (KGNU 88.5, Boulder, CO), and Rapidly Rotating Records (KISL 88.7, Catalina Island, CA).
This special evening is a celebration of the past and the promise of the Gillioz ongoing mission to make memories for generations of theatre patrons. Don’t miss it!
