Linda Kirchner: A lifetime of jigsaw puzzles, travel and geometry combine to create Linda Kirchner’s unique art. Her 28 years of teaching geometry brings in a playful obsession with parallel lines, polygons, arcs and circles. Add in her love of travel and a variety of topics from urban and rural settings find their way to her work. Her abstract art emerges as she lets the angles and curves create a new world. So, numerous color changes, a wide range of topics and boundless shapes produce a stained glass effect that will dance from her canvas into your heart

Lea Dingman: “I paint to live and breathe.  Before painting I saw black and white; now I see color.  It is literally life and breath to me today.  I am accepting gifts from God now.  Every time my paints touch canvas, I truly believe that I am an artist and I receive the blessing of creativity unconditionally.  Each painting comes with a word to my heart that I translate to what my eyes can see.  Understanding each painting has a mission, a purpose, as it waits for the one it was intended for.  I am blown away by the magic of it all as I have no choice but to catch the blessings as they fall.” (417) 862-9300 Open 11 a.m.-6 p.m. T-Sat, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. during Art Walk.

Hotel Vandivort, 305 E. Walnut St., a proud Art Walk sponsor, presents October Featured Artist Elizabeth Chapman

Artist Statement: “As an abstract expressionist artist, I paint intuitively. For me, intuitive painting is kind of like going on a trip with vague plans—or maybe no plans at all. I’m deeply inspired by music, but sometimes I paint without it, dancing to my own song as I place colors and lines on the canvas. Whether I paint abstracts, florals, or people, each painting merges my experiences and memories, and it’s all in response to the beauty I see. I’m often asked how long it takes me to complete a painting, to which I respond, “All my life!” And the journey is pure adventure!

“My upbringing was full of adventure, too, with my childhood split between two distinct and influential cultures. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, I moved to rural Missouri as a girl, from the city to the country. Even though I’ve now spent most of my life in the United States, I still feel strong ties to Hispanic culture, and I attribute my love of color to my Spanish heritage: My paintings have been described as bold, lively, and vivid, with a complexity of layers.” Open for First Friday and Second Saturday. Obelisk Home at the Inspired Commerce Building, 214 W. Phelps, presents The Art of Stephanie Cramer in October.  Jenkins is a self-taught artist from Springfield and founder of AJ’s Gallery.

Artist Statement: “I see the painter as analogous to an actor/director bringing the viewer along to new places, memories, dreams, and family histories. I like to give the viewer space to interpret what they see on the canvas. Center stage in my art is the figure—an object in motion, as if the figure is caught, just for an instant; a glimpse, a snapshot before the gesture is complete. I’m not in search of exact representation. I’m intent rather on provoking a sense of tension or intensity. These, plus color, bring the emotion to the painting. Whether spatial or expressionistic, the implied relationship between figures is intended to arouse curiosity. Painting is like a freeze frame. It helps both the viewer and the painter to pause—if just for a second as we enter into that two dimensional space. Most of the time the stage is imaginary or based on dreams and memories. Like Alice, the viewer is invited to step into the drama or the wonderland inside the looking glass.” — Stephanie Cramer (417) 616-6488 www.obeliskhome.com
