In an all original episode, in the not too distant future, Christmas Eve 2020, Sam has come down with the Covid, and safely quarantined in a bedroom of a local motel. Dean is taking it easy when he’s visited by none other than the Ghost of Christmas Past, who takes Dean down memory lane of a case that may serve to remind Dean of a lesson regarding his present situation.

When the Ghost transports Dean back in time, he observes a case he took shortly after Sam had gone off to college leaving Dean behind in the aftermath of Sam and their father’s heated disagreement. Dean felt frustrated and alone until he realized none other than Bobby was working the same case; a yuletide murder that left a single mother dead with a meat hook through the heart. Something not so merry was clearly afoot.

That Christmas, Bobby interviews the young lad who had bore witness to the strange events that had taken place the week before. Strange noises around the house, doors slamming, skittering of feet, disembodied giggling, and the like. Not to mention the tormented baying of a sheep outside, potato-stuffed stockings, and sausage being swiped from the breakfast plate. You know, common Christmas ghost stuff.

As the Dean of the present relives the events of this strange Christmas, the Ghost of Christmas Past attempts to share a lesson that Dean needs to apply to his current life. The Ghost finds out soon enough that trying to get a point across to a Winchester is about as easy as ice fishing with a candy cane.

As past Dean and Bobby continued to investigate, they discovered a lead that shared an eerie resemblance between the strange activity, and the Christmas stories of Icelandic lore. The Yule Lads; mischievous poltergeists who came around during the holidays to wreak havoc and spread their own holiday cheer. However, a bigger threat may be on the horizon as their mother just so happens to be a heavy hitting anti-Claus known as Gryla the Christmas Witch.

Will the Dean and Bobby of the past be able to solve the mystery of the Yule Lads? (probably) Will the Ghost of Christmas past finally get through to Dean to aid him through the tribulations of his current predicament?
