Calling all artists: Apply now for Artsfest 2019!

November 01, 2018

Imagine a beautiful, tree-lined street. On either side sit historic Victorian homes. Roaming the sun-splashed asphalt are more than 20,000 art lovers of all ages. And there you are showing off your art at Southwest Missouri’s best art festival.

Now quit imagining! Head to and submit your application for Artsfest on Historic Walnut Street, presented by Great Southern Bank. The festival is May 4 & 5, 2019. The application process has an earlier deadline than normal: Jan. 15.

Join this 39-year-old tradition of artistic excellence

Artsfest makes art essential to the lives of those living in Southwest Missouri by showcasing talented artists and their creativity in a community-centric festival. Now 39 years strong, this outdoor event will host more than 120 artists in 2019. You could be one of them.

Artists submit five images as part of their application. Four images must be representative of the work that will be exhibited in the booth. The fifth must be an image of the booth display. A panel of four individual, qualified artists will act as the jury for Artsfest. They will consider three factors in their judging:

  • Overall Presentation
  • Craftsmanship
  • Originality

All artists will be notified by Feb. 1, 2019. Up to 130 artists will be accepted, with 15-20 alternates placed on a waitlist. Alternates will be notified via email if a spot becomes available.

One added perk for local artists is the opportunity to share their booth with another local artist. Both artists must submit separate applications and pay individual jury fees.

Thousands of dollars to be awarded at Artsfest

More than $5,000 in cash awards will be given at the festival, which prides itself on Midwestern hospitality. Those awards include:

  • Best of Show — $1,000
  • Best of Show 2D — $500
  • Best of Show 3D — $500
  • People’s Choice — $500
  • Award of Excellence (as many as 15) — $200

But that’s not all. The Springfield Regional Arts Council plans to give at least $2,500 worth of Art Bucks to patrons in the community to encourage art sales.

Artsfest on Historic Walnut Street is managed by the Downtown Springfield Association on behalf of the Springfield Regional Arts Council. The SRAC, incorporated in 1978, connects people and the arts. It supports some of the most prominent visual, performing, literary and film/media arts organizations and artists within 27 counties, the largest outreach of any in the state of Missouri.
