Don’t feel guilty for filling your belly at Taste of SoMo

June 20, 2019

Do not feel guilty about filling your belly at Taste of SoMo this Saturday, June 22, from 1-5 p.m. You’ll be helping fill someone else’s belly, too.

Go ahead and stroll around Park Central Square for a while. Listen to the music. Spend your tasting tickets at your favorite restaurants, or check out some new ones. Because while you’re doing all that, you’ll be supporting a worthy cause.

Taste of SoMo, presented by SGC Foodservice, supports Ozarks Food Harvest’s mission of fighting hunger in Southwest Missouri. Admission is free. Tasting tickets sell in sheets of 10 for $10. A portion of the proceeds from the event will go to OFH, headquartered in north Springfield. It’s mission: Transforming hunger into hope.

Ozarks Food Harvest is the Feeding America food bank for Southwest Missouri, serving 270 hunger-relief organizations across 28 Ozarks counties. The Food Bank reaches nearly 30,000 individuals weekly and distributes more than 17 million meals annually. It’s programs include the Weekend Backpack Program, Mobile Food Pantry, After-School & Summer Food programs, the Senior Food Program and more.

The Food Bank has been named the Small Business of the Year by the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce and the Nonprofit of the Year by the Springfield Business Journal.

It doesn’t take much to make a difference. For every $1 donated to OFH, the organization is able to provide four meals. You can be a part of making those meals happen by purchasing tasting tickets and spending them at Taste of SoMo. Each restaurant will be serving items priced at 2, 3 or 4 tickets. There will be everything from appetizers to entrees to desserts. Just by sampling food, you’re sending money to Ozarks Food Harvest to help others.

What happens if you don’t use all your tickets? You can donate them to OFH before you leave.

Here are the restaurants you can sample from during Taste of SoMo, from 1-5 p.m.:

Bawi Korean BBQ, Best of Luck Beer Hall, Big Whiskey’s American Restaurant & Bar, Black Market Smokehouse, Black Sheep Burgers & Shakes, Branson City Diner, Chinese Chef, Civil Kitchen, Crave Cookie Dough, Druff’s, Dublin’s Pass, El Charro Mexican Restaurant, Finnegan’s Wake, Frank ‘n’ Steins, Greek Belly, Hinode Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi, Iguana Roja, Jamaican Patty Co., Kona Ice, Lost Signal Brewing Company, Mexican Villa, NoBaked Cookie Dough, OMO Japanese Soul Food, Orange Leaf, The Order, Queen City Wine Dive, Springfield Brewing Company, Tinga Tacos, Travellers House Coffee & Tea and Yoselin’s Mexican Cuisine and More.

Doesn’t that list make you thirsty? No worries. We’ll have bottled water and soft drinks for sale from Ozarks Coca-Cola/Dr. Pepper Bottling Company. There will also be beer available for purchase thanks to our friends from Heart Of America Beverage.

There will be educational opportunities during Taste of SoMo. A Women In Food Panel will be held at 1:45 p.m. on the Park Central Square stage. There will also be a Healthy Eating panel at 3.

Live music will fill your ears all afternoon, starting with Dallas Jones and the Henderson Kids at 1. The Brant Jester Combo, including members of Missouri Jazz Orchestra, take the stage at 2:15. The Good Shadows will play at 3:30.

Tasting ends at 5 p.m., but the party does not! The Flood Brothers, from Hannibal, will play from 5-7, with a beer garden and food truck dining available to the general public.

Food. Music. Friends. Fun. Charity. Taste of SoMo is June’s biggest can’t miss party.
