Don’t give crummy gifts: A Downtown Springfield Father’s Day Guide

June 13, 2019

Father’s Day is this Sunday, June 16! Dad may say he doesn’t want you to spoil him, but he’s not going to say no to a thoughtful expression of love and gratitude on this day. There are plenty of ways you can spoil your pops in Downtown Springfield. Here are just a few.

Dining

Brunch options abound every Sunday in Springfield. There are a few extra special events on Father’s Day, though.

Springfield Brewing Company has brunch from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and every dad gets a free beer Sunday. There new burger options highlight the BrewCo menu all weekend: Beer Cheese & Onion Pub Burger, The Big Daddy and Donut Make You Wanna Burger. That last one, you probably guessed, includes donuts for buns!

Lost Signal Brewing Company also has a special menu addition for Father’s Day brunch. They’ll be serving up a bacon-wrapped pork chop. Enjoy some music while you dine, courtesy of Tony Menown and his dad, Jerry.

And don’t forget Hotel Vandivort’s Living Room Lineup. They’ll have their usual (incredible) brunch menu available. There will also be live music from Johnny Strickler and Christin Borsich.

But don’t feel like you have to wait until Sunday to spoil your dad. Head over to Mother’s Brewing Company Saturday from 4-8 p.m. for their first-ever Ales & Tails event. It’s a traditional crawdaddy boil with all the fixins: corn, potatoes, sausage and shrimp. And don’t worry about the weather. There will be a tent in the Backyard to keep you dry.

Shopping

Get your dad something nice at one of downtown’s incredible retail shops. A Cricket in the House always has unique items, like this shoeshine stand.

Fresh Gallery’s local artists have countless creations to dress up your father’s home or office. That includes paintings and great photographs.

5 Pound Apparel is well-stocked with T-shirts, hats, accessories and more. Is dad a Blues fan? 5 Pound is offering special shirts celebrating their Stanley Cup win. You can pre-order the shirts at 5 Pound’s website.

The Merry Moore Boutique is not just for the ladies! Downtown Springfield’s newest retail store has T-shirts and hats from Ozark Brothers, fun patterned ties, cards and candles in store!

Family Outings

Does your dad love baseball? The Springfield Cardinals are home to face Corpus Christi. First pitch is 2:10 p.m. at Hammons Field. It’s Hiland Dairy Ice Cream Sunday, which means free ice cream sandwiches for the kids before the game. Kids Run the Bases after the game! All dads are invited onto the field before the game to play catch and take photos with their family. The Cardinals are also offering a 20% discount in their team store on all men’s wear and baseball caps.

The Discovery Center is open its normal Sunday hours, 1-5 p.m. They’re offering free admission for dads and grandfathers. Celebrate Dad with a day of discovery!

Looking for something different to do with dad? How about axe throwing? Craft Axe Throwing is letting dads throw for free from 2-7 p.m.

Shopping. Eating. Axe throwing. It’s all downtown!
