You might expect to find an invasion of monsters or a horde of zombies this Halloween. But a group of silver screen superheroes, the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile and the Ghostbusters are swooping in and taking over the Discovery Center. They’re ready to meet some of their biggest fans, help teach a little science and bring a lot of candy and joy to our area.
The Discovery Center is hosting a MARVELous Discovery Halloween 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Oct. 30. The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile and the Ghostbusters of the Ozarks will be at the Center serving free hotdogs from 11:30 a.m.– 2:30 p.m. DC and Marvel heroes from Springfield’s Ultimate Cosplay League will be at the Center from 11 a.m.–4 p.m. Families can explore the six combined floors of 300 hands-on exhibits while learning the science behind superheroes and trick-or-treating indoors. All activities inside are free with the cost of admission.
“This event is just about the most exciting thing we could have dreamt up,” Rob Blevins, Discovery Center Executive Director, said. “It’s rare to know ahead of time where the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile will be, and what kid doesn’t get excited about meeting superheroes? Throw in some Ghostbusters, and you have yourself a little bit of everything and a lot of fun.”
Visitors can also see the Discovery Center’s new traveling exhibit Dinosaur Discovery. The exhibit is sponsored by Don Wessel Honda. Guests can come face-to-face with a family of Triceratops, an Albertosaurus on the hunt and other animatronic dinosaurs. They’ll also learn the science behind these prehistoric creatures. Guests can also find fossils in the dig pit and take a photo inside the deadly jaws of a Tyrannosaurus rex or while riding a Triceratops. All Dinosaur Discovery experiences are free with admission.
“The best part about planning to come this Saturday is that there is zero pressure on taking your kids out on a school night in whatever the Missouri weather decides to do on Halloween night,” Blevins said. “Kids have been disappointed a lot these past couple of years with things getting canceled, but the learning and fun are definitely on this Halloween at the Discovery Center!”
The Ultimate Cosplay League is a dedicated group of exceptional individuals committed to changing the world. The Ultimate Cosplay League takes its passion and enthusiasm for cosplay and uses it to help the community and those in need.
