We’ve got sidewalks, bus stops and bike racks in Downtown Springfield, and they’re not just there for decoration. In fact, they could help you win some prizes.
Bike Walk & Wheel Week is May 12-17. Ozark Greenways puts on this celebration of active modes of transportation. Your participation will get you a free smoothie from Panera and a sticker with the new Ozark Greenways logo.
There are also fun events scheduled all week long, including a kickoff event Sunday, May 12. Want to participate? Here’s how!
You can participate as an individual or as part of a team. Schools and businesses are also welcome to take part. All you have to do to register is email Lori@ozarkgreenways.org or call 417-864-2015. Log your days and modes during or after the event. Just make sure you do it by June 7 so you can be eligible for prizes!
This event asks the question “Where will your route take you?” With 80-plus miles of on-street bike routes, 70-plus miles of greenways and CU Transit busses, the answer is just about anywhere! Ozark Greenways’ slogan “Communities Connected by Trails” isn’t just meaningless marketing.
Walk to lunch. Bike to work. Bus to a friend’s house. Carpool to a meeting. Explore a trail. Log just one active outing to collect your smoothie and sticker! There will also be giveaways on social media all week. Prizes include T-shirts, Hy-Vee gift cards, a weekend stay for two at the DoubleTree, movie passes to Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and more.
There are plenty of resources to help you. Ozark Greenways has route and greenway maps. There’s also the City Utilities bus map, as well as tips from Let’s Go Smart. And make sure you take advantage of Springfield’s 12 cool bike aide stations.
Want to bike and bus on the same day? No problem! City Utilities will give free city bus rides all week to those traveling with a bike. Each CU bus has an easy-to-use bike rack on the front. The friendly bus drivers will help you with the rack or your route.
Ozark Greenways has teamed up with local partners — including some of our downtown neighbors — to schedule a week full of fun activities. Here’s the list:
Are you a cyclist? Play Bike Month Bingo! If you get Bingo, take a photo with your page, post it to social media and win a prize! Use the hashtags #OzarkGreenways and #BikeWalkWheelWeek. If you’re not on social media, you can still win. Just email your photo to Lori.
