Job Opening: C-Street CID Coordinator and Placemaking Specialist

The Downtown Springfield Association is seeking qualified applicants for the newly established C-Street Community Improvement District Coordinator and Better Block SGF Placemaking Specialist position to support the efforts of both organizations in promoting urban growth and activity within Springfield’s Center City. The CID Coordinator and Placemaking Specialist should understand and embrace the mission of both organizations and have a genuine passion for community betterment. Better Block projects are mostly temporary, urban interventions that demonstrate a series of rapid prototypes that improve quality of place.

Position

Reporting to the DSA Executive Director, the CID Coordinator and Placemaking Specialist will provide administrative support for both the C-Street CID Board and Better Block SGF Board, focusing on communications, project management and marketing efforts. This position would require the ability to balance an assortment of tasks and projects between the two organizations. While there will be occasional tasks that crossover between the C-Street CID and Better Block SGF, the majority of projects and responsibilities will be specific to each organization and will, therefore, require effective time management. The C-Street CID Coordinator and Placemaking Specialist is a Full Time (40 hours/week) position. The position will have a weekly physical presence on C-Street and Downtown Springfield.

Responsibilities

Both Organizations

  • Writing and producing content for external communications and social media.
  • Organize board meetings and various other committee meetings.
  • Collaboration with Board members, student interns, volunteers, and fellow staff members.
  • Monitoring International Downtown Association, Main Street, Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau, and other industries to provide
    suggestions on best practices and innovations to enhance Springfield’s Center City.

C-Street CID

  • Provide support to the Commercial Street CID Board of Directors for monthly meetings and
    follow-up of Board decisions.
  • Provide liaison support to other C-Street organizations as directed by CID Board.
  • Support C-Street events under the guidance of the CID Board in terms of specific assistance and
    support.
  • Provide assistance to coordination with City of Springfield and other organizations and entities as
    directed by the C-Street CID Board.
  • Assist C-Street businesses with understanding sales tax and CID operations.
  • Coordinating committee meetings and projects as directed by the CID Board.
  • Maintain a visible presence on C-Street and develop a reasonable understanding of the history
    and culture of the street.

Better Block SGF

  • Project coordination.
  • Update/help maintain the Better Block website.
  • Prepare content for monthly and annual newsletter.
  • Help to manage corporate sponsor/donor relations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Arts in Community Planning, Non-profit management, Communications or another related field.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Efficiency with basic productivity software and cloud-based platforms (Microsoft Word/Excel, Google Drive, Trello, etc.).
  • Ability to be adapt as position evolves and changes with project/personnel requirements.

This position is full-time (40 hours per week). It includes some evenings and weekends. As such, there is flexibility in the office hours as coordinated with the Executive Director. Benefits include paid vacation and sick days, a health care allowance, and a simple IRA retirement match.

Salary Range:

$30,000-$32,000 commensurate with experience.
