Justin Smith to tape special at Blue Room Comedy Club

January 12, 2022

Have you checked out a show at Blue Room Comedy Club’s new location (420 West College)? This weekend is the perfect opportunity!

Road comedian Justin Smith is back in the Queen City Jan. 14-15. He’ll perform four sets — 7 and 9:30 p.m. each night — as he records a one-hour special. And he needs you in the crowd.

Smith, who attended school in Joplin, is from Oklahoma City. He relocated to New York City to chase his comedy dream. On paper Smith seems to fit an Oklahoma stereotype. He was raised in a religious household, went to a conservative Christian college, worked in the oilfield, loves BBQ and the phrase “fixen to.”

But once you see him perform, those stereotypes are smashed. Smith is quick-witted, brutally honest and incredibly engaging. That’s the main reason his resume is so diverse. Ranging from making fun of high school proms on MTV, to talking about the intricate details of comedy on PBS, to performing at the world-famous Apollo Theater in Harlem. Smith has also participated in the notorious Hell Yes Fest in New Orleans.

Smith is no stranger to Springfield. He’s visited the Blue Room several times and was recently at the Gillioz Theatre, opening for national comic Nate Bargatze. Smith currently resides in NYC, where he lives in a Hispanic neighborhood, rides crowded trains every day, and performs nightly all over the city. And loves every second.

Tickets to see Just Smith record his special this weekend are $20 for club seating and $25 for reserved seating (tickets are $10 more at the door). Club seats are first-come, first-served on the night of the show. Reserved tickets get you priority seating. You’re assigned the best available seats at the time of your purchase and they are held for you.

There’s plenty of free parking next to the Blue Room. The club is connected to the College Station Car Park and across the street from the Heer’s Parking Garage. That means a short trip from the car to the comedy.
