The Downtown Open — presented by Central Bank of the Ozarks and Wil Fischer is this Saturday, Oct. 13. It will turn Downtown Springfield into a pop-up mini golf course, the first of its kind in the Queen City.
Get your tickets now so you can play the Front Nine, the Back Nine or both. Then read our nine-step guide to playing Springfield’s first pop-up mini golf course.
Park Central Square will be a hub of activity for the Downtown Open, with live music all day as well as golf-related activities sponsored by SwingRight Golf. You can enter a putting competition, chip golf balls into the fountain or even play disc golf. All of those events are free!
The Clubhouse tent will be at Park Central Square. That’s where you’ll pick up your scorecard. If you didn’t buy your tee time in advance, no worries! You can pay the day of the event.
Once you’ve got your scorecard, you’re ready to play. Take advantage of the putting greens on the square and the warm-up hole at Civil Kitchen, then head to your assigned green. Your Downtown Open brochure will include a handy map.
A perk of the Downtown Open: You don’t have to haul your gear around! Each hole is equipped with putters and special golf balls that won’t damage any windows or merchandise. Of course, if you have a lucky putter, you’re welcome to bring it with you.
We’re using the honor system here, folks. Just remember the Front Nine of the Downtown Open is only as competitive as you want it to be. We’re just glad to have you visit Downtown Springfield and check out our incredible coffee shops, restaurants, retail stores and so much more!
Your completed scorecard will get you a free round of golf at the Betty Allison Junior Golf Course at Oscar Blom, courtesy of the Springfield-Greene County Park Board!
Don’t forget, we’ve got your gear covered. Make sure you leave it there for the next group.
If you started on 1, then — of course — go on to 2. If you start on 7, head to 8, and so on. This “shotgun start” will help ensure there are no traffic jams along the course. Is your group playing slow? Be kind and let faster groups play through.
There will be a special wrap up hole at The Coffee Ethic, on the south side of Park Central Square. Make sure you play that hole and turn in your scorecard. Not only will you get your free rounds of golf, you’ll also be entered to win other fabulous prizes.
