September 16, 2020

Fall is knocking at the Ozarks’ door and the weather forecast is brilliant this weekend. Why not Park it in Downtown Springfield?

And yes, we capitalized Park for a reason. Here’s why.

Our friendly neighborhood placemaking organization has brought PARK(ing) Day back! This time Better Block SGF will be turning parking space into a micro-park in front of Mudhouse Coffee (323 South Ave.). The event runs from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. It will be an action-packed day. Here’s the schedule:

  • 9-10 a.m.: Free Mudhouse Coffee, with Better Block SGF
  • 10-11 a.m.: Greenways Info Booth, with Ozark Greenways
  • 11 a.m.-noon: Jenga, with Drury University students
  • 1-3 p.m.: Mini Golf, with Downtown Springfield Association
  • 3-4 p.m.: Build-A-Street Workshop, with Better Block SGF

Live music on Park Central Square

You’ve got a couple of chances to park yourself on Park Central Square and enjoy some FREE live music! Sounds on the Square returns for the fifth week in its seven-week run with these shows.

  • Sept. 17, 7-9 p.m.: Kenny Key & Juanita Lee
  • Sept. 19, 7-9 p.m.: Lyal Strickland

The Downtown Springfield Association will provide some physically-distanced chairs, or you can bring your own seating. Grab some food to go from your favorite Downtown restaurant and enjoy the show, presented by the Missouri Arts Council and the City of Springfield.

Sweet Saturday on Park Central West

Queen City Soda & Sweets is hosting a special after-hours FREE sampling event Saturday, Sept. 19. They’ll be open their normal hours at 301 Park Central West (11 a.m.-7 p.m.) and will stay open later for samples, music and mood lighting.

  • Craft soda and candy samples begin at 7 p.m.
  • Masks are required while in the store
  • Free craft soda floats if you show your receipt outside

Make sure you RSVP to the event on Facebook for more information and updates.

Fireworks at the ol’ ballpark

The Springfield Cardinals will put on their final Great Southern Bank Community Fireworks Series show Saturday night. Hammons Field will not be open to the public, but the Cardinals encourage fans to #FlyTogether and find a parking spot nearby to enjoy the show (which takes place across the street from Jordan Valley Park). Enjoy the full music and fireworks experience by tuning into the Midwest Family Broadcasting stations to enjoy the accompanying soundtrack. Participating stations are 104.7 The Cave, 92.9 The Beat, 105.1 The Bull or Q102.1.

Park it and eat

Sundays are perfect for brunch! Downtown Springfield has its normal options available, including the ever-popular Gailey’s Breakfast Cafe, as well as a few special options. Park your car and walk to any of these delicious destinations.

Lost Signal Brewing Company is hosting its only September brunch this Sunday, the 20th. Enjoy breakfast tacos and mimosas! Inner Circle Vodka Bar and Springfield Brewing Company also have great brunch options.
