4 Things to Know About Springfield’s Newest Film Festival

March 08, 2018

Rated SGF, downtown Springfield’s newest film festival, launches on March 31. The festival is gathering serious buzz with local film lovers and filmmakers alike, especially now that tickets are on sale. Questions about what makes this fest so exciting? Check out the following need-to-know Rated SGF factoids.

The films are rad.

One of the festival’s main goals is to celebrate films and artists that challenge our assumptions—whether that’s through an underdog protagonist or an unexpected setting. The films are still being announced, but the current lineup is nothing short of inspiring with three electric local shorts and a modern coming-of-age story. The full schedule will be announced shortly, at which point festival-goers will be able to purchase individual tickets in lieu of all-day passes. See the current lineup here, and stay tuned for the other films.

You’ll get serious facetime with the filmmakers.

Each Rated SGF screening seeks to create an authentic connection, blurring the boundary between storyteller and audience. That means that every film at Rated SGF includes a Q & A with one of the film’s department heads—be that a no-nonsense Hollywood director, a local filmmaker or a lead actor. The fest will also have souvenir posters available for purchase—perfect for snagging autographs. Finally, don’t miss your chance to rub elbows with the movers and shakers at the Rated SGF after party occurring at Hotel Vandivort. All-day passholders will get access to the party—including one free drink and some heavy, heavy apps.

There will be swag.

The first 100 festival-goers to buy all-day passes will score a sweet Rated SGF swag bag. Those passes are going quick, so be sure to reserve yours while you still can. If you miss out on the first 100 all-day passes, don’t panic: You can still purchase festival swag, including totes and enamel pins, at the event.

Expect copious SGF pride.

Rated SGF is inspired by exceptional things found in unexpected places. (Sound familiar, Springfieldians?) From the venue (the historic Fox Theatre on Park Central Square) and the refreshments (local coffee, beer, cocktails and chocolate) to a few surprises from local musicians, the festival will serve as an all-day celebration of the things that make Springfield a great place to be.
