Team A.N.A. 417 challenges Downtown Springfield businesses to dress up for the holidays

October 10, 2019

Longtime Springfieldians can tell you all about the magic of Christmas in Downtown Springfield. A big part of that magic is coming back, thanks to Team A.N.A. 417.

The Springfield-area non-profit is putting on the first-ever Team A.N.A. 417 Downtown Springfield Holiday Window Challenge. The competition is meant to be unique, just like Downtown Springfield’s businesses.

The rules

Each participating business will create a holiday window display and have it ready to go by the Festival of Lights Kickoff and Mayor’s Tree Lighting Ceremony Saturday, Nov. 23. Those displays will stay up through the holiday season. Guests in Downtown Springfield can vote online for their favorite window.

The business that gets the most votes from the public receives the honor of “Most Unique Window.” It will also receive a unique award, along with bragging rights all year long. The winner will be announced Dec. 14, the day of the annual Downtown Springfield Christmas Parade.

Participating businesses pay an entry fee of $75. All proceeds benefit Team A.N.A. 417. Several Downtown Springfield businesses have already signed up: 5 Pound Apparel, History Museum on the Square and Normans Bridal.

About Team A.N.A. 417

Team A.N.A. 417 is an organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for acoustic neuroma patients and their families. Their mission statement is: “To inspire patients and families, educate communities and drive research to find answers for a rare brain tumor.”

An acoustic neuroma diagnosis at age 21 inspired Jennifer Miller was to start Team A.N.A. 417. Miller and her team are a volunteer-based non-profit. All funds they raise in excess of standard operating costs go back into the community.

Team A.N.A. 417 proudly gives back 85 percent of its funds locally for expenses incurred while undergoing treatment. It donates a total of 10 percent nationally towards funding for research, treatment and prevention.
