Downtown Springfield Association

What the Downtown Springfield Association does and what other organizations do.

The Downtown Springfield Association’s mission is to cultivate and sustain a vibrant business community represented by a balance of retail, professional, service, dining and entertainment entrepreneurs. We’re community developers, event planners and passionate Downtowners.

But we don’t do everything when it comes to Downtown Springfield. It takes a team effort. The City of Springfield and the Downtown Springfield CID also keep things running smoothly. If you’ve ever wondered who does what Downtown, this page is for you.

What the DSA does

Advocacy: Our ultimate goal is to ensure downtown remains a great place to live, work and play. That means advocating on behalf of developers’ issues, historic tax credits, safety initiatives and more. For more information about the DSA’s advocacy work, contact Executive Director Rusty Worley.

What other organizations do

Parking Lots and Garages: From on-street parking to surface lots to garages, there are plenty of places to park in Downtown Springfield. The DSA does not manage any of those spaces. The City of Springfield is in charge of the College Station Car Park and Heer’s Car Park, as well as lots north of Park Central Square along Olive Street. Davis Properties manages the Park Central Parking Garage on McDaniel, between South and Jefferson. Tillman Redevelopment manages the paid lot on Park Central West. Please keep an eye out for No Parking signs and private lots when you visit Downtown Springfield.

Park Central Square Reservations and Event Permits: Want to hold a community event in Downtown Springfield? We don’t blame you. It’s a stellar place to bring people together, with a beautiful public square and lots of free parking within walking distance. The City of Springfield’s Public Information & Civic Engagement office can help you out with everything you need. Visit their website and click on the “Special Event Permits” link on the left for more information.

Rent, Lease or Sell Properties: Are you interested in living Downtown? Great! Want to find an office space, or storefront for your business? Fantastic! The DSA can help connect you with those. We maintain listings of Lofts and Apartments, and Commercial Space on our website. Each listing includes contact information so you can reach out to the right people.

Safety, Security, Parking Enforcement: Our partners at the Downtown Springfield Community Improvement District help keep our neighborhood clean, safe and friendly. Here’s how:

  • Clean: Downtown Springfield CID maintenance works around the clock to ensure a pleasant, clean experience for Downtown businesses and patrons.
  • Safe: Downtown Springfield CID works closely with downtown businesses and city and law enforcement officials to keep center city a safe place to live, work and play.
  • Friendly: Fostering a friendly environment that ensures unforgettable experiences for our community is very important to the Downtown Springfield CID. They partner with the DSA and other groups on community events, including the Wednesday Concerts at Noon at Founders Park series in June.

The Downtown Springfield CID also handles parking enforcement in on-street, 2-hour parking spots. For more information on the Downtown Springfield CID, visit their website or contact CID Manager Barb Baker at 417-812-6101.
