As an outreach to the arts in 2021, the History Museum on the Square has chosen to promote Springfield Ballet’s December 17-20 production of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker in our popular holiday Windows on the Square this year. Our theme, Clara’s Christmas Dream: The Nutcracker, will be depicted in seven windows. It will bring joy to young and old as we present the magical Christmas ballet story written by E.T.A. Hoffmann in 1816.

The History Museum on the Square has created downtown Christmas windows since 2008. Bringing back this beloved holiday tradition has encouraged other businesses to do so as well. The residents of Springfield and area communities love visiting our city’s historic downtown holiday windows. Many remember when they saw the windows as a child with their families long ago.
