Cinephiles rejoice! The silver screens in Downtown Springfield are roaring back to life!
Both Moxie Cinema and Regal College Station will resume showing movies Friday, Aug. 21. And do they have some classics ready to roll for you. Here’s what you need to know!
The Queen City’s member-supported arthouse cinema is back after closing its doors March 16. They’ll fire up the popcorn machine and switch on the projector for a pair of movies this Friday, including one that will be very familiar to the theater’s many fans. And that ticket price? Incredible!
“We’re kicking things off with a free screening of Miranda July’s ‘Me and You and Everyone we Know,’ which screened on the Moxie’s grand opening some 15 years ago,” the Moxie said in a social media post.
The film, from 2005, is a comedy about a pair of potential lovers: Richard, a newly-single shoe salesman and father of two, and Christine, a lonely video artist and “Eldercab” driver. Criterion says, “Playful and profoundly transgressive, “Me and You and Everyone We Know” is a poetic look at the tortuous routes we take to intimacy in an isolating world, and the moments of magic and redemption that unite us.”
Other movies at the Moxie this weekend are the Spike Lee joint “Do The Right Thing” and the horror film “Amulet.”
Here’s what the Moxie crew is doing to protect everyone’s health and safety:
