It’s showtime! Moxie Cinema and Regal College Station are back!

August 20, 2020

Cinephiles rejoice! The silver screens in Downtown Springfield are roaring back to life!

Both Moxie Cinema and Regal College Station will resume showing movies Friday, Aug. 21. And do they have some classics ready to roll for you. Here’s what you need to know!

Moxie Cinema

The Queen City’s member-supported arthouse cinema is back after closing its doors March 16. They’ll fire up the popcorn machine and switch on the projector for a pair of movies this Friday, including one that will be very familiar to the theater’s many fans. And that ticket price? Incredible!

“We’re kicking things off with a free screening of Miranda July’s ‘Me and You and Everyone we Know,’ which screened on the Moxie’s grand opening some 15 years ago,” the Moxie said in a social media post.

The film, from 2005, is a comedy about a pair of potential lovers: Richard, a newly-single shoe salesman and father of two, and Christine, a lonely video artist and “Eldercab” driver. Criterion says, “Playful and profoundly transgressive, “Me and You and Everyone We Know” is a poetic look at the tortuous routes we take to intimacy in an isolating world, and the moments of magic and redemption that unite us.”

Other movies at the Moxie this weekend are the Spike Lee joint “Do The Right Thing” and the horror film “Amulet.”

Here’s what the Moxie crew is doing to protect everyone’s health and safety:

  • All staff wearing masks
  • Capacity reduced to 25% of available seats
  • Assigned seating clusters to allow for physical distancing
  • Theatres cleaned thoroughly after every show
  • New touchless faucets and sanitizer dispensers
  • Contact tracing for all visitors

You can do your part to help the Moxie by:

  • Wearing your mask at all times
  • Buying tickets online to reduce contact
  • Practice proper physical distancing
  • Use new entrance and exits to reduce lobby congestion
  • Be patient as the crew figures out how to navigate this new reality

Our neighbors at Regal College Station are also taking special precautions. Their staff will undergo daily health screenings, wear masks and wash hands frequently. They are also making changes to their concession stand, with fewer registers open, a reduced menu and a suspension on refills.

Guests must wear masks at all times. They will be asked to proceed to their auditorium as soon as possible and exit in a timely manner at the conclusion of their movie. While watching your movie, Regal asks you to leave empty seats between groups for proper physical distancing.
