South Street Christian Church is a progressive Christian community located in the heart of downtown Springfield. In its worship, in studies, in fellowship, and in its service to humankind, it strives to offer God’s inclusive love to everyone. As recipients of God’s gracious love, it accepts others unconditionally. The church worships in a circular sanctuary and strive to be a circle of love in the city.
Each Sunday, it gathers at 10:15 am for a creative, vibrant, and dynamic service featuring a diversity of worship experiences within a traditional framework.
Each week, it designs a service inspired by Revised Common Lectionary readings that centers around a sermon, but may also include prayer stations, candlelight, video, interpretive scripture readings, liturgical dance, and other creative elements.
Its services also feature a wide range of music from Bach to Bluegrass. On any Sunday you may hear hymns, pipe organ, keyboard, classic and contemporary choir anthems, and vocal soloists accompanied by an assortment of non-traditional instruments.
At the heart of our worship is the weekly observance of communion where all are welcome regardless of church affiliation. A variety of dress is seen at our services, and you are welcome as you are!
