Springfield Contemporary Theatre and Mosaic Arts Collective have combined forces to bring Springfield audiences the joyful and soul-stirring production, the Tony and Olivier Award-winning musical, Once on This Island.

With a cast of 32 local performers and direction by Mosaic co-founders Nki Calloway and Amanda Snead, Once on This Island is a Caribbean retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale, The Little Mermaid.

Ti Moune, a peasant girl, rescues a wealthy boy from the other side of the island, Daniel, with whom she falls in love. Unbeknownst to Ti Moune, the pompous gods who preside over the island make a bet with one another over which is stronger, love or death. A rousing Calypso-flavored tale, Once on This Island is a breathtaking story of Black joy and sorrow, the aftermath of colonization and isolation, and the triumph of love against all forces.
