Downtown Springfield Association

The Downtown Springfield Association’s mission is to cultivate and sustain a vibrant business community represented by a balance of retail, professional, service, dining and entertainment entrepreneurs. DSA seeks qualified applicants for its Communications Intern position. The successful candidate will demonstrate competency in and passion for the following areas:

Assist the DSA Communications Manager in digital marketing for Downtown Springfield, including:

  • Populating the downtown events calendar
  • Updating the downtown business directory
  • Updating loft and commercial property listings as needed
  • Prepare a comprehensive social media marketing plan across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
  • Event Support

Assist the DSA Events Manager as coordinated by the DSA Communications Manager with the following:

  • Event social media as needed
  • Recognition of sponsors on social media
  • Onsite event support for the following:
    • Artsfest
    • First Fridays on the Square
    • Other events as assigned

Skills:

Applicants are expected to hit the ground running. The successful applicant will exhibit proficiency in the following areas:

  • Navigating digital content management systems (WordPress, etc.)
  • AP style
  • Creating eye-catching design using Adobe Suite products (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.)
  • Social media management principles

Time Commitment:
Late May through August 2018
10-15 hours per week (about 250 hours in total)

Compensation:
This is an unpaid internship that will help you make invaluable connections in the local community–helping you land a top notch job post graduation. In addition, academic credit and flexible work locations can be arranged.
